Faughanvale parishioners have been rallying to the aid of their local church after St Canice’s, Eglinton was inundated with floodwater during last night’s storms in the north west. The church – and its nearby parish hall – were both affected.
A torrent of water carried swept mud into both buildings, covering the floors with a layer of silt. There was some damage to kitchen equipment in the hall. The paved area around St Canice’s was also covered, making it treacherous to walk on.
Parishioners have been helping with the subsequent clean-up, carrying saturated kneelers from the church so they can dry. The container housing food bank donations escaped unscathed.
The village of Eglinton was among the areas worst affected by Tuesday evening’s lightning storm.
